La historia central que hilvana todos los cuentos de "Las mil y una noches" es el de Sherezade, la esposa del sultán que, con el fin de evitar un fatídico final, noche tras noche entretiene, hipnotiza y encanta a su esposo contándole cuentos de guerreros, magos, genios y grandes prodigios, hasta lograr cautivar su corazón.
